Who We Are

Expert -- Wan Fugui
Honorary President and “Panda Dad”
A native of Wolong, Sichuan, he left high school and worked for two years before passing the adult college entrance exam in 2008. He then enrolled in the Applied English program at the Adult Education College of Sichuan Normal University. After the Wenchuan earthquake impacted his family's finances, he supported himself through part-time jobs and rose from the lowest-ranked student in his class to top of his year in spoken English.
After graduation, he worked for six years as a Special Assistant at the China-U.S. Environmental Foundation, focusing on giant panda habitat conservation and sustainable community development. From 2016 to 2021, he served as Head of Operations at Wolong China Giant Panda Ticket Management Company, overseeing ticketing, tourist vehicles, and guided tours. During this time, he also voluntarily trained in captive giant panda care, conducted field research on wild pandas, learned ecotourism skills from British birdwatching experts, and contributed to developing Wolong’s giant panda science education and research programs.
From September 2023 to May 2024, he pursued a Master’s degree in International Tourism Destination Management at Edinburgh Napier University in the UK. In August 2024, he founded the "Wenchuan County Wolong Giant Panda Habitat Conservation and Community Sustainable Development Association" and launched Wolong’s first integrated demonstration project for wild giant panda habitat restoration and high-end ecotourism. The initiative aims to establish a Wolong-specific mechanism for sharing ecological benefits and a sustainable development model that promotes harmony between humans and nature.

As a dedicated young researcher, intern, and website designer for the Wolong Giant Panda Habitat Protection and Social Sustainable Development Association in Wenchuan, she has committed the past four summers to intensive field research at the Wolong Panda Nature Reserve. Her work involves deep observation of giant panda habitat behaviors, seasonal rhythms, and the ongoing efforts to restore the wild panda population.
In her multifaceted role, she also volunteers within the Wolong Nature Reserve Special Administrative Region, where she applies her bilingual skills as an English interpreter and host for international delegations. By bridging the communication between global conservation experts and local initiatives, she helps foster cross-cultural collaboration. Simultaneously, she supports the association's digital presence by designing and maintaining its official website.
Currently a student at UWC Changshu, she combines a global perspective with a profound, hands-on commitment to ecological sustainability. Her time in Wolong has nurtured a deep, personal connection to the land and its iconic species, fueling her determination to contribute to the future of giant panda conservation through science, technology, and meaningful dialogue.
