The Story of Wolong Giant Pandas
Basic Information
The association was initiated by Wan Fugui, a local resident of Wolong, and established with the support of Giant Panda experts represented by Professor Zhang Heming, known as the “Panda Father,” and the participation of Wolong indigenous people. It is a Wolong-based public welfare organization dedicated to Giant Panda Conservation and Community Sustainable Development.

Founding Purpose
We embarked on this journey driven by a core insight: conservation and development are not opposing forces, but inextricably linked. Witnessing the shrinking of Wolong's giant panda habitat due to degradation and human disturbance, we recognized the urgent need for protection. Simultaneously, local communities relied on traditional subsistence models, creating conflicts between development and conservation that undermined sustainability. Thus, we firmly believe that conservation without community participation is fleeting, and development without ecological support is unsustainable. This conviction led us to establish the dual-drive philosophy of “Conservation and Community,” dedicated to exploring a future where humanity and nature coexist in harmony.
Member Profile
The association currently has 36 individual members and 3 institutional members. Among them are 21 individuals including giant panda experts, conservation graduate students, and panda enthusiasts, as well as 15 native residents of Wolong.
